Thula Sindi’s Spring/Summer 2017 showcase at #MBFWJ17 is a lesson in how to strike a balance between trendy and classy when making a commercial collection. With subtle structural elements and great variety of fabric choices – textured and mirrored leather, light weight knitwear, chiffon, silk – the ensembles oozed ‘chic casual’.
The veteran designer makes garment for the young and old that don’t look like they are worlds apart – the collection was cohesive.
I personally enjoyed how the designer managed to use houndstooth without it looking outdated and the contemporary interpretation of umbhaco and isidwaba.
With key pieces such as the voluminous smock dresses, power dresses, playful dresses, snug fitting biker jackets, and panelled crop jackets that looked like something you’d inherit from your grandmother, Thula Sindi had something for everyone and every occassion.
