As The Threaded Man I have a LOT of shoes, from sneakers to formal footwear. I love my shoes, so when it comes to keeping them clean, I’m careful about which products I choose. Many Threaded Man readers have been asking me about my secret, and how I manage to take care of shoes that are made from different materials. The answer is pretty simple – I use KIWI. You’ll recognise the name and logo, but what you probably don’t know is that their range is pretty big, so I know I can find a product to suit all of my shoes.

Suede Shoes

I’m a big fan of suede shoes but I know that they can be difficult – and frustrating – to clean. I’ve ruined shoes before by using cleaners that make the texture of the suede hard, rather than actually cleaning anything. I use the KIWI Suede & Nubuck Foam Cleaner because I know it cleans the suede well without damaging it at all. If, like me, you wear your suede shoes often, then inevitably you’ll end up with scuffs. There’s a simple trick to making them look like new again, and that’s with the KIWI Suede & Nubuck Renovator.

Leather Shoes

Ah, leather! One of my favourite materials. When it comes to leather shoes I know they’re not the hardest to look after, but they lose their shine if they aren’t nourished or buffed. Once a week I use the KIWI Wax Rich Shine & Protect Liquid Polish on my leather shoes because it protects them, particularly against water. And if I’m in a rush, I know that all I have to do is use a clean cloth and buff them, and then they’re so shiny I can practically see my face.

My easy tips for looking after your shoes:

  • When your shoes have scuff marks, wipe them with a wet cloth and then use polish on the scuff marks. Then when you buff your shoes you won’t see the scuffs at all.
  • At some point we’ve all been caught in the rain, but this doesn’t mean you have to toss out your favourite shoes. When you get home stuff them with newspaper, hang them up in your bathroom and when they’re dry apply polish.
  • If you can’t find the right shade of polish for your shoes, choose a neutral colour or a shade lighter, but don’t ever go darker.

Threaded Gents, if you love your shoes like I do, then maybe it’s time you also used KIWI. It’s my secret shoe weapon and it helps me put my best foot forward.
